Convert SYD to another file type

To convert SYD Data files to another format, you need SYSTAT or other Data software.

Convert a file to SYD

To convert other file formats to the "Statistical Data File" file type, you need software like SYSTAT or a similar tool.

About SYD files

The .syd file extension is primarily associated with SYSTAT, a specialized software package for statistical analysis and scientific graphing. These files store structured datasets, variable definitions, and analysis results in a proprietary binary format. The main issue for users is that .syd files are virtually inaccessible without a valid license for SYSTAT or legacy versions of the software. Because the format is not human-readable like XML or JSON, you cannot simply open it in a text editor to retrieve your data. Furthermore, older .syd files from legacy versions (like SYSTAT 12 or earlier) may face compatibility issues with modern OS environments.

A secondary but significant use case involves NEC PBX systems, where .syd acts as a system data backup. These are hardware-specific dumps used to restore telephone network configurations and are generally useless outside the specific NEC maintenance utility.

For SYSTAT data, the most practical solution is converting the file to a universally compatible format. To analyze the data in tools like Microsoft Excel or Tableau, you should convert .syd to CSV (Comma Separated Values) or XLSX. This removes the proprietary lock-in and allows for immediate viewing and editing. For archiving purposes, converting to flat text ensures the raw data remains accessible even if the original software becomes obsolete.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SYD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TSL, FLS, IMP, SFT and SQM files.

The SYD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SYD converter.
