About SY_ files
A .sy_ file is a compressed version of a standard sys (Windows System or Driver) file. Originally designed by Microsoft to save storage space on installation media like floppy disks and CDs, these files rely on Microsoft's proprietary compression utility (compress.exe). The primary disadvantage of a .sy_ file is that it is completely inert; the Windows operating system cannot load or execute the driver natively while it remains in this compressed state. It must be manually unpacked before use. Furthermore, because it uses a legacy, proprietary compression method, standard modern unarchivers often fail to read the file headers. You must expand this file back into a standard SYS file to install the corresponding hardware drivers or repair corrupted system components. Standard online converters fail to process this format because it is not a document, but rather a raw, system-level binary blob. Just drag and drop your .sy_ file into convert.guru to identify the format, inspect the underlying Cabinet or executable structure, and extract or convert it when possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SY_ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SY_ file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use Microsoft Windows or similar software from the "Compressed System File Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to SY_, try Microsoft Windows or another comparable tool in the "Compressed System File Storage" category.
The SY_ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SY_ converter.
