About SXD files

The .SXD file is primarily a vector drawing document originally created by StarOffice and early versions of OpenOffice. It stores scalable vector graphics, text, and basic charts within a compressed ZIP container holding XML files. Secondarily, the extension is used as an ArcScene Document by ESRI ArcGIS to store 3D spatial data visualizations using the Microsoft Compound file structure. You can open drawing .SXD files using LibreOffice Draw or Apache OpenOffice Draw. ArcScene .SXD files require ArcGIS Pro or legacy ArcScene software. You should convert this file because the .SXD vector format is entirely obsolete. It relies on an older structure that predates the modern ODG (OpenDocument Graphics) standard. You cannot view these files in modern web browsers, and sharing them with colleagues guarantees compatibility errors unless they explicitly use LibreOffice. For the ArcScene variant, files are proprietary, highly complex, and require expensive ESRI software licenses to access. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser. For vector editing, convert to SVG or modern ODG. For sharing and printing, convert to PDF. For web use or quick previews, convert to PNG or JPG. Note that converting 3D ArcScene files to standard image formats will flatten the 3D spatial data into a static 2D image.

The SXD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SXD converter.
