The .STUDIO file extension represents two distinct proprietary vector formats used in digital design: electronic cutting layouts from Silhouette Studio and interface prototypes from the legacy InVision Studio.
Silhouette Users: These files contain vector paths, registration marks, and cut settings for Silhouette machines (Cameo, Portrait). A major limitation is that the free "Basic Edition" of Silhouette Studio restricts users from exporting industry-standard SVG files, effectively locking designs into their ecosystem. This prevents users from transferring their work to Cricut Design Space, Adobe Illustrator, or other vector software without a paid upgrade. Solution: To bypass these restrictions, convert your .STUDIO files to SVG for universal cutting machine compatibility, or to PDF for easy printing and sharing with clients.
InVision Users: These are complex design project files (internally compressed as ZIP) containing layout JSON and assets. With the platform's discontinuation, accessing these files has become a digital preservation challenge. Solution: Convert these files to PDF for visual archiving or extract the contents to recover raw image assets (PNG, JPG) for migration to modern tools like Figma.
