About STC files

The .STC file extension is most commonly associated with StarOffice Calc Spreadsheet Templates, which are now supported by open-source alternatives like Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice Calc. These files store the default formatting, cell layouts, and formulas required to generate multiple spreadsheets with a uniform structure. Alternatively, .STC files are heavily used as proprietary Label Design Templates by industrial printing software, such as cablabel S3 or the SATO Label Design Tool. You may also encounter .STC files as SAS Catalog Data Files managed by SAS, or even as cached sticker files for the Telegram Messenger app.

The major disadvantage of the .STC format is its highly fragmented nature. Because the extension is shared across wildly different applications - ranging from open-source spreadsheets to highly specialized thermal printer software - it is impossible for most operating systems to know how to handle the file by default. StarOffice templates are an outdated, legacy format that modern software like Microsoft Excel cannot natively open, forcing users into frustrating workarounds. Meanwhile, SATO label templates lock your design data behind expensive, specialized printing suites, meaning the files cannot be viewed on standard PCs, web browsers, or mobile devices.

To make your data usable and accessible, you must convert the file. If you have a spreadsheet template, convert your .STC file to XLSX for full compatibility with modern office software, or to CSV to extract the raw data without the legacy formatting. For label designs, converting the file to a PDF or PNG is the most reliable way to share the layout for printing or client approval without forcing the recipient to install SATO software. Just drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
