About STATS files

A .stats file is a generic data container used by dozens of unrelated applications to store numerical data, application metrics, or system logs. Common uses include structural brain imaging data from FreeSurfer, code linting reports from Pylint, performance profiling outputs generated by Python's cProfile, and macOS system diagnostics.

The main disadvantage of the .stats format is its lack of standardisation. Because the extension is merely a generic descriptive word, a .stats file from an x264 video encoder is fundamentally incompatible with an Apache Iceberg database. Furthermore, many of these files are saved in obscure binary formats rather than plain text, effectively locking the data away from standard spreadsheet tools and making manual parsing impossible. Even plaintext variations often require tedious formatting cleanup.

To effectively visualize or analyze this data, you must convert it. For tabular data manipulation, convert to CSV or XLSX. For seamless web and developer integration, JSON is the ideal target format. For basic human reading, TXT is the safest fallback. Our tool will attempt to detect the underlying structure of your .stats file and extract the raw data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your STATS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted STAT, MGZ, TEST and PHO files.

The STATS Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STATS converter.
