About SSW files

The .SSW extension primarily refers to a Mech design file created by Solaris Skunk Werks, a comprehensive Java-based utility for the BattleTech tabletop wargame. These files use an XML schema to store detailed specifications of a BattleMech, including tonnage, armor distribution, weaponry, and critical hit tables. The biggest obstacle for users is the dependency on the Java Runtime Environment (JRE); you cannot view the actual 'Record Sheet' needed for gameplay without launching the specific SSW application or importing the file into MegaMekLab.

For tabletop play, the most common workflow is converting .SSW to PDF to print physical Record Sheets. For digital simulation, users often convert or export these files to MTF (MegaMek format) to load units into the MegaMek game engine. A secondary, distinct use of the .SSW extension exists within the engineering sector, specifically for Reinforcement Steel Schedules generated by Allplan (Nemetschek). These are specialized CAD data files that often require conversion to XLSX for Excel processing or PDF for architectural archiving.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SSW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SSWWEB, XWS, MLP and AMD files.
