The .SJS file extension primarily belongs to SpreadJS, a JavaScript spreadsheet component created by GrapeCity (now MESCIUS). It serves as a highly optimized, ZIP-compressed archive containing multiple JSON files that map out workbook data, styling, and formulas. Another notable use case is as a Snatcher game script dump generated by the Snatcher Text Dumper tool for ROM modding and translation.
The main disadvantage of the .SJS format in the spreadsheet context is its closed-ecosystem nature. It is heavily tied to web-based grid controls like Smartsheet or custom enterprise web applications. You cannot simply double-click an .SJS file to open it in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Users typically need to convert these files to universal formats like XLSX, CSV, or standard JSON to perform offline data analysis or share data with external teams.
Because this is a specialized format, standard online converters often fail to process it. They see a generic binary or ZIP stream and cannot rebuild the spreadsheet grid. Often, only the original application utilizing the SpreadJS framework can properly read or export the data.
