About SXC files
The .SXC file extension represents legacy spreadsheets created by OpenOffice.org 1.0 and StarOffice 6.0. Developed by Sun Microsystems, this format was the XML-based predecessor to the modern OpenDocument Format (ODF). While it introduced the concept of ZIP-compressed XML office files (containing content.xml, styles.xml, etc.), it is now effectively obsolete. Users often encounter friction when accessing .SXC files because modern suites like Microsoft Excel may flag them as security risks, open them in 'Protected View', or lack full formatting support, resulting in broken formulas or layout shifts. Furthermore, mobile devices and web browsers cannot natively render .SXC data. To ensure long-term data accessibility, it is highly recommended to convert these files to XLSX for broad compatibility with Microsoft Office, ODS for native use in LibreOffice, or PDF for immutable archiving and printing.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your SXC file.
Users also converted XSC, SXW, SCX, ODS, ODG, ODP and XLS files.
The SXC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SXC converter.
