About SECURE files

A .SECURE file is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected document primarily created by FinalCode, an enterprise file security platform developed by Digital Arts. A secondary, older use case is the Septium Secure Document associated with the Septium Core software suite. Both formats serve the exact same purpose: locking down sensitive corporate data with military-grade encryption so that it cannot be opened, copied, or printed by unauthorized users. A .SECURE file is essentially an encrypted container wrapped around a standard file, such as a PDF, CAD drawing, or Office document.

The disadvantages of the .SECURE format are immense for standard users. It is deeply proprietary, relies on an active internet connection to verify your identity against a remote server, and requires you to install a heavy, enterprise-level client software just to view the content. Worse, the original sender retains complete control: they can disable printing, prevent screenshots, block conversions, or remotely delete the file from your device entirely. It is impossible to handle these files with standard desktop applications.

Because of these strict DRM policies, standard online converters will fail to process this file. The encryption mathematically prevents unauthorized extraction. You typically want to convert the underlying document back to PDF, DOCX, or JPG for normal use, but this is only possible if you open the file in the original client and the sender has explicitly granted you 'export' permissions.

This file format is intentionally difficult to open or convert. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format and inspect its binary headers. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is. If our analysis detects an unsupported encryption layer, we will save you time by confirming it. If the file is actually an unencrypted format simply renamed with a .SECURE extension, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SECURE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XLSX, XLS, HTML, DOCX, PDF, JPG, ENC, DOCENX and UPDF files.

The SECURE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SECURE converter.
