The .SDP file extension is a dual-purpose format that most commonly refers to a Session Description Protocol file, but can also be a legacy StarOffice Presentation.
The most frequent use (approx. 40% of files) is a text-based format standard used by the IETF to describe multimedia streaming sessions. These files do not contain actual video or audio data; rather, they serve as the "handshake" instructions (containing metadata like IP addresses, ports, media types, and codecs) required to establish a connection between a streaming server and a client.
Common Friction Point: Users often find these files when attempting to download a video stream and mistakenly believe the .SDP file is the video itself. Attempting to "convert" this to MP4 or AVI directly is impossible because the media content is missing - it is merely a set of coordinates pointing to the stream.
