About SCZ files
The .SCZ extension primarily represents a Scala Content Package, a proprietary container format used by Scala digital signage software (like Content Manager and Designer) to bundle media assets, scripts, and playlists for distribution to playback screens. While these files are essential for deploying dynamic signage, they are frustratingly opaque for users who simply need to view or edit the enclosed content without access to the enterprise-grade Scala ecosystem. A secondary but significant use case involves Bandai Namco game titles, where .SCZ serves as a compressed archive for game assets like textures and audio, often locked behind proprietary encryption that prevents standard access.
For Scala users, the main problem is the "black box" nature of the file; you might have a 500MB package but no way to see the video inside. Fortunately, Scala .SCZ files are typically standard ZIP archives in disguise. For quick access, you can often rename the extension from .SCZ to ZIP and extract the contents - usually standard formats like MP4 video, JPG images, or XML data. However, for specialized game archives or strictly encoded packages, manual renaming won't work.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SCZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SCZ file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Scala Designer or similar software from the "Digital Signage Content Package" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The SCZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SCZ converter.
