About SBI files
The .SBI file is primarily a PlayStation disc subchannel data file. It stores raw subchannel data extracted from PlayStation 1 (PS1) CDs. This data is critical for bypassing LibCrypt copy protection, which was commonly used on European (PAL) game releases. Standard disc image formats like ISO drop this subchannel data during extraction.
Typically, .SBI files are used alongside emulators such as ePSXe or DuckStation. A secondary, much rarer use for the .SBI extension is the Sound Blaster Instrument format, a legacy audio file created by Creative Labs for vintage PC sound cards.
Users often attempt to convert .SBI files out of frustration when an emulator fails to load a game. However, converting this file is practically impossible and usually the wrong approach. It is a highly specific, binary companion file. Standard online converters fail to process it because it is not a standalone media, document, or archive file. It must sit in the same folder as a BIN or IMG file to function.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, traditional conversion tools will reject it. Often, only the original emulator software can properly read the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the binary file, and show text or internal hex content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your SBI file.
Users also converted SB1, SIB, 65, PNG and HDR files.
