About SAP files

The .SAP extension primarily represents the SAP GUI Shortcut, a small configuration file used by the SAP GUI to automatically launch specific business transactions or system connections. These files contain essential login parameters - such as the system ID, client number, and transaction codes - stored in a plain text format. Users often encounter friction when receiving these files via email on devices without SAP software installed, or when file associations break, causing the file to open in a web browser or text editor as raw code. To view the connection details without launching the heavy client, users should convert the file to TXT or PDF.

Alternatively, in the context of retro computing, the .SAP format is a Slightly Atari Player music file. These contain 8-bit chiptune audio data ripped from Atari 8-bit computers (XL/XE series). The files emulate the POKEY sound chip and cannot be played by standard media players like Windows Media Player or on mobile devices. To listen to these tracks universally, enthusiasts must convert them to MP3, WAV, or FLAC.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SDB, $2K, S2K, RPT, ZIP, UDC, VDF, VMT and PDF files.

The SAP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SAP converter.
