About RXD files

The .RXD file extension primarily identifies a legacy database file created by Borland Reflex, a flat-file database management system from the MS-DOS era. These files store structured data records, reports, and views in a proprietary binary format that modern software like Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access cannot natively open. The main challenge with .RXD files is digital obsolescence; the original software requires a 16-bit DOS environment, meaning you typically need an emulator like DOSBox just to view the content. This can lead to major headaches for data recovery or archival projects.

In a modern engineering context, .RXD files may also store reinforced concrete beam or column data used by Autodesk Structural Detailing (now discontinued) or ASDIP Concrete. These files contain critical structural calculations and reinforcement specifications. Because the originating Autodesk software has been replaced by Revit, accessing these legacy design files is increasingly difficult without specialized, often expensive, or outdated licenses.

The RXD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RXD converter.
