About RWX files
The .RWX file format is primarily known as a RenderWare 3D Object Script or Scene File. Originally developed by Criterion Software, the RenderWare engine was heavily used in legacy video games and virtual environments like Active Worlds. These files store 3D geometry, material properties, and texture mapping coordinates. A secondary use for .RWX files is as a Biometrics raw datalog file generated by hardware from Biometrics Ltd. Opening an .RWX file today is a frustrating experience. The RenderWare engine is obsolete, meaning modern 3D software cannot open these files natively. Users typically need legacy software or specific community-built plugins for Autodesk 3ds Max. For the Biometrics datalog, the data is locked behind proprietary medical and research software. Converting .RWX is highly recommended to recover your data. For 3D models, converting to standard formats like OBJ, FBX, or DAE ensures the geometry can be imported into modern engines like Unity or Unreal. However, expect to lose specific material shaders native to RenderWare. For Biometrics datalogs, converting to CSV is ideal for tabular data analysis. Because these are closed, proprietary legacy formats, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
