About ROS files
A .ros file is most commonly associated with BattleScribe, a popular army list builder for tabletop wargames like Warhammer 40k. These files are essentially XML documents that store the structure of your army, including unit stats, point costs, and equipment selections. The primary issue with sharing raw .ros files is dependency: the recipient must have BattleScribe installed along with the exact same version of the data repositories (game system files) you used, or the file may fail to load or display errors. Additionally, these files are not natively printable or viewable in standard web browsers. To share your list for a tournament or casual play, the best workflow is converting the .ros file to a portable PDF or HTML format. This renders the stats into a readable layout that can be viewed on any device without specialized software.
Alternatively, a .ros file may be a legacy roster file for EA Sports games like Cricket 07 or Madden NFL. These are often proprietary binary formats containing team lineups and player attributes. These files are typically locked to the specific game engine and are difficult to edit without dedicated community-made "roster editor" tools or hex editors. They cannot be easily converted to standard image or document formats, but enthusiasts often convert the internal data to CSV or TXT using specific modding utilities to batch-edit player stats before re-importing them into the game.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ROS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ROZ, RIS, PKL, INP, ZIP, SIM, ERF and SGR files.
The ROS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ROS converter.
