About RNG files

The .RNG file extension primarily represents two entirely different formats: a legacy Nokia Ringtone or a RELAX NG schema. Originally designed by Nokia to store monophonic and polyphonic ringtone sequences, the audio variant of this format is completely obsolete. Modern smartphones, operating systems, and media players like VLC cannot open .RNG audio natively, making playback practically impossible without emulation. Conversely, in software development, an .RNG file is an XML-based schema defined by the RELAX NG standard used to validate the structure of an XML document. While RELAX NG is elegant, many legacy corporate parsers lack native support for it, strictly requiring W3C standard schemas. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser. For legacy audio files, convert your .RNG to MP3 or WAV to restore playback compatibility on modern devices. For developers facing strict enterprise parser limits, translate your .RNG schema into a universally accepted XSD (XML Schema Definition) or DTD format.

The RNG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RNG converter.
