Convert a file to RIV

To convert other file formats to the "Real-time Vector Animation File" file type, you need software like Rive or a similar tool.

About RIV files

The .RIV file is primarily a real-time animation file created by Rive. Developers and designers use this format to build interactive vector animations for games, mobile apps, and websites. A small subset (about 1%) of .RIV files are River survey data files generated by Sontek RiverSurveyor equipment, which log acoustic Doppler data for hydrological analysis.

Users often need to convert .RIV files because the format is proprietary and highly specialized. You cannot open .RIV animations natively in standard web browsers without implementing the Rive runtime libraries. Furthermore, standard graphic suites like Adobe After Effects or Adobe Illustrator do not support them. A major disadvantage of the .RIV format is that it relies on internal "state machines." If you convert the file to a standard video format like MP4 or an animated GIF, you will completely lose all dynamic inputs, interactive logic, and tracking states. The output becomes a flat, non-interactive timeline.

If you only need to display a static animation loop, converting to MP4 or GIF is the pragmatic choice. If you require standard web implementations, exporting to JSON (similar to Lottie formats) is preferred, though direct conversion is difficult. Standard online converters fail to process .RIV files because they lack the proprietary Rive runtime engine required to execute the file's internal logic. Even though this is a closed, proprietary format, we can identify the underlying structure. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format or readable text metadata, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RIV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted REV, JSON, ARW, MP4, JPG, EX4, APKG, TORRENT, TSX, ACSM, SDOCX and FLR files.

The RIV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RIV converter.
