About RFX files

The .rfx file format is primarily used as an expansion package for the RealFlight RC Flight Simulator. These files store user-generated custom aircraft, airports, and 3D environment data. Alternatively, the .rfx extension represents XML-based report layouts generated by ActiveReports, or proprietary hardware data like Maccor battery test results, Schneider Electric PLC recoverable states, and Microsoft RemoteFX compressed bitmaps.

Users often need to convert or extract .rfx files to access the internal 3D assets, textures, or text-based report structures. The main disadvantage of this format is its severe fragmentation. Because .rfx is shared by entirely unrelated industries - from RC hobbyist games to industrial hardware testing - operating systems never know how to open it. An .rfx file exported from an industrial PLC will crash a flight simulator, and an ActiveReports file cannot be read by battery diagnostic software. Furthermore, many of these variants require expensive or niche software to access.

For RealFlight users, the best conversion target is a standard ZIP archive, which allows you to extract the raw TGA textures and .KEX 3D meshes inside. For ActiveReports users, converting to XML or TXT is the best way to make the report layout readable by a human or a different application.

Because of this fragmentation, standard online converters usually fail. They cannot guess which of the six different versions of an .rfx file you uploaded, resulting in failed conversions. Highly proprietary versions, like closed binary battery data, are extremely difficult to open and usually require the original software to properly read or export the data. Our analyzer will inspect the binary signature of your file. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a standard ZIP header or plain XML text - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RFX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted AIRPORT, G3X and AIRPORTS files.
