The .RDW file format is primarily used for specialized 2D/3D CAD drawings associated with OSCAR CAD and Ashlar-Vellum. It is also utilized as a proprietary document format in SoftPro ProForm for title and escrow workflows, and as a road design or plot file by Bentley Systems. These files store highly specific, complex data - ranging from vector geometries and civil engineering road alignments to sensitive real estate transaction details. The main disadvantage of the .RDW format is its proprietary lock-in. Because the format is native to expensive, niche enterprise applications, users without an active subscription cannot access the data.
