To convert your RCM file to another format, you need Autodesk ReCap or other 3D software.
To convert other file formats to the "Photogrammetry Mesh" file type, you need software like Autodesk ReCap or a similar tool.
The .rcm file extension is predominantly associated with Autodesk ReCap, a software suite used to process reality capture data (photogrammetry and laser scans) into 3D models. These files contain Reality Capture Mesh data, which represents high-resolution 3D geometry derived from point clouds. The biggest challenge with RCM files is their proprietary nature; they are designed to function exclusively within the Autodesk ecosystem, specifically linking with Autodesk ReCap and AutoCAD. This lock-in makes it difficult to import the data directly into other standard 3D tools like Blender or Unity without an intermediate conversion step.
Users often need to convert .rcm files to share 3D assets with clients who do not have an Autodesk subscription, or to utilize the mesh in web-based viewers. For editing and general 3D use, the best target format is OBJ (Wavefront Object), which is universally supported. for 3D printing, converting to STL is recommended. If you are dealing with raw point cloud data rather than a mesh, PLY or PTS are superior targets.
Note: In industrial automation environments, an .rcm file might alternatively be a comment table for Delta Electronics ISPSoft or recipe data for GE Fanuc Cimplicity. A rare but distinct subset exists for Société Générale bank statements, which are essentially renamed PDF files.
