Convert RBT to another file type

To convert RBT files to another format, you need LEGO MINDSTORMS or other Developer software.

Convert a file to RBT

To convert other file formats to the "Robotics Program File" file type, you need software like LEGO MINDSTORMS or a similar tool.

About RBT files

The .RBT file format primarily contains visual programming projects built for the LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT and EV3 robotics ecosystems. These files store graphical code blocks, logical conditions, and hardware instructions required to operate the physical LEGO programmable bricks. Alternatively, .RBT is used as a compressed game asset bundle containing media files for the mobile rhythm game Cytus II by Rayark Inc.

To interact with robotics files, users historically relied on the official LEGO MINDSTORMS Software. However, the legacy nature of the NXT and EV3 platforms poses a significant challenge. The .RBT format is highly proprietary, closed-source, and natively unreadable outside of the original, now-discontinued IDE. Users face extreme limits when trying to view the visual block data in standard text editors or modern programming environments.

Engineers and students often need to convert these graphical block files into readable text-based code like C (for RobotC), PY (for MicroPython), or TXT to migrate old projects or preserve logic. Direct conversion is exceptionally difficult because standard online converters fail to parse the proprietary internal syntax of the LEGO ecosystem. Conversely, Cytus II asset files are essentially renamed ZIP archives. Users extract these to obtain standard PNG graphics and OGG audio files.

This file format is difficult to open or convert. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the standard ZIP compression used in the Cytus II variants - viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RBT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RPT, XML, LMSP, ENU, X16 and IBT files.

FAQ

If you want to convert RBT file to IBT, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use LEGO MINDSTORMS or similar software from the "Robotics Visual Programming Logic" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RBT, try LEGO MINDSTORMS or another comparable tool in the "Robotics Visual Programming Logic" category.

The RBT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RBT converter.
