About RBT files
The .rbt file extension is most historically significant as a project file created by the legacy LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT programming software (specifically the NXT-G environment). These files contain the visual logic blocks, sensor configurations, and motor commands used to automate NXT robots.
Because the format relies on a deprecated LabVIEW-based runtime, opening .rbt files on modern operating systems like Windows 11 or macOS Silicon is a major problem. The original software is discontinued, making these files effectively "locked boxes" of logic unless you maintain a legacy virtualization environment. Users often look to convert these files to PDF (by printing the block diagram for documentation) or import them into the newer LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 Home Edition software to attempt a migration.
A secondary, unrelated use of the .rbt extension appears in the mobile rhythm game Cytus II by Rayark Inc. In this context, the file is simply a masked ZIP archive containing game assets. For these users, the "conversion" is often as simple as renaming the extension to zip to extract audio or textures using tools like 7-Zip or WinRAR.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RBT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RBT file to IBT, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT or DB, you can use LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT or similar software from the "Robot Programming Instructions" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RBT, try LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT or another comparable tool in the "Robot Programming Instructions" category.
The RBT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RBT converter.
