About IBT files

The .IBT extension is a multi-purpose container primarily associated with two distinct industries: motorsports simulation and healthcare data exchange.

In the context of iRacing, an .IBT file contains high-frequency telemetry data. These are binary recordings of vehicle physics, driver inputs, and track conditions generated during a race session. Sim racers and engineers typically need to convert these files because the raw binary format is unreadable by standard text editors. To analyze suspension travel, tire temps, or lap deltas, users must often export this data into CSV or XLSX formats for use in generic spreadsheet software, or convert them for compatibility with professional analysis tools like MoTeC i2 Pro.

Alternatively, in healthcare administration, .IBT stands for Immediate Batch Text. Generated by Availity, these files contain batch response data regarding insurance eligibility or claims. While these files are technically text-based, they are often formatted in rigid EDI layouts that are difficult to interpret without parsing. Users frequently convert these to standard TXT or PDF to make the patient data human-readable for billing and archiving.

Less frequently, .IBT files may appear as temporary database files generated by Embarcadero InterBase or build artifacts from IncrediBuild. These are system files that generally should not be manually opened or converted, as they are transient and locked by the operating system.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IBT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted !BT, LBT, MIP, IMS and CY files.

The IBT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IBT converter.
