About IBT files

The .IBT file extension is most commonly used for iRacing Telemetry Data files. Created by the iRacing motorsport simulation, these files record detailed physics and vehicle behavior data during a race. Players use tools like Mu Telemetry or MoTeC i2 to open and analyze suspension travel, tire temperatures, and speed. Alternatively, .IBT files operate as Immediate Batch Text Responses generated by Availity for medical claim batch processing. Other minor uses include InstallShield Tuner project files, Embarcadero InterBase temporary databases, and legacy Eidos game textures.

Users frequently need to convert .IBT files because they are locked into niche proprietary ecosystems. iRacing telemetry files are binary and completely unreadable in standard text editors or spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel. Availity files are often plain text but lack standard formatting, confusing common parsers.

For iRacing data, the best target format is CSV (Comma Separated Values) or JSON, which allows data visualization in custom dashboards. Translating Availity batch files to TXT or CSV is also recommended for easier auditing. Note that converting binary telemetry to raw CSV strips out the native metadata structures required by specialized software like MoTeC.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because the primary iRacing variant is a closed, proprietary binary format. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific decoders to parse iRacing's physics engine outputs. Often, only the original software or specialized community scripts can properly read or export the data. Our tool will inspect the file, attempt to extract any plain text or underlying structures, and provide viewing or conversion options if an embedded format is detected.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IBT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted !BT, LBT, MIP, IMS and CY files.

The IBT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IBT converter.
