About RAV files

The .RAV file format is primarily used as a Rave Reports Project File. Developed by Nevrona Designs, these files store visual report layouts, database connection settings, and data processing rules used by Delphi and C++Builder developers. Secondary uses include interactive pen audio files for Ravensburger Tiptoi toys, government evaluation reports for the Brazilian Court of Accounts (internally ZIP archives), and RIFF audio for Bratz video games.

Users usually need to convert .RAV files because they lack the specific reporting software to open them. The Rave Reports format is highly proprietary and depends heavily on the original database environment it was built for. Without a Delphi application or the original Rave Reports designer, viewing the compiled report is nearly impossible. This creates vendor lock-in, limits accessibility, and prevents users from easily sharing reports with clients or colleagues who expect standard document formats.

The most pragmatic conversion targets are PDF for document sharing, or CSV and XLSX if extracting raw tabular data. However, direct conversion is challenging because the .RAV file often contains the template framework for the report, not just the static output data. Converting it to a static format usually requires exporting it directly from the original application, meaning dynamic database bindings will be flattened into raw text.

Because .RAV files are closed and proprietary, standard online converters often fail to process them. Often only the original software can properly read or export the structured data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like a disguised ZIP archive for Brazilian government reports or a RIFF header for game audio - viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RAV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MP3, RAR, VPP, HFP and RXPROJ files.

The RAV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RAV converter.
