About R30 files
The .R30 file is a specific segment of a Split RAR Archive - specifically the 31st volume in a multi-part sequence (following .R29). This format utilizes the "Old Style" naming convention generated by WinRAR, historically used to span large datasets across multiple floppy disks or CDs.
The primary constraint with .R30 files is that they are useless in isolation. Users frequently encounter errors when attempting to open this file directly because the decompression software requires the entire chain of volumes (typically starting with a RAR or R00 file) to be present in the same directory to reconstruct the original data. Additionally, the proprietary nature of the RAR format means that default system tools in Windows and macOS often fail to recognize or handle these split volumes correctly, necessitating the installation of third-party utilities like 7-Zip.
For most users, the goal is to access the data locked inside. The best conversion path is to extract the contents and then repackage them into a single ZIP file for universal compatibility, or a 7Z file for superior compression efficiency. Avoid keeping data in split .R30 sequences for long-term storage, as losing just one segment corrupts the entire archive.
Convert.Guru analyzes your R30 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert R30 file to ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, CAB, ACE, ARJ or LHA, you can use WinRAR or similar software from the "Split Archive Segment" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to R30, try WinRAR or another comparable tool in the "Split Archive Segment" category.
The R30 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our R30 converter.
