Convert a file to PZ3
To convert other file formats to the "3D Scene File" file type, you need software like Poser or a similar tool.
About PZ3 files
The .PZ3 file is a proprietary 3D scene file created by Poser. It acts as a master save file, storing 3D character models, rigging, animations, textures, lighting setups, and camera angles. To open or fully edit these files, you must use Poser, a commercial 3D computer graphics program historically developed by Smith Micro and currently owned by Bondware. Poser is highly specialized for human figure modeling and animation. Users frequently need to convert .PZ3 files because they are entirely proprietary. You cannot open a .PZ3 file directly in web browsers, game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, or even standard 3D suites like Blender without specialized plugins. Furthermore, relying on .PZ3 requires an expensive software license. The best target formats for conversion are OBJ for static meshes and textures, or FBX and DAE (Collada) if you need to retain rigging and animation data. Be aware that during conversion, proprietary node-based materials or complex weight-painting often get lost or distorted. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert externally. Because it relies heavily on external runtime libraries and proprietary bone structures, standard online converters almost always fail to process it. Often, only the original Poser software can properly read or export the data. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PZ3 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PZ3 file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Poser or similar software from the "3D Scene Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to PZ3, try Poser or another comparable tool in the "3D Scene Storage" category.
The PZ3 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PZ3 converter.
