Extract text from PWT files
To convert your PWT file to another format, you need Photodex ProShow or other Page Layout software.
To convert other file formats to the "Template File" file type, you need software like Photodex ProShow or a similar tool.
A .pwt file represents a variety of legacy template and settings formats, often causing confusion due to the discontinuity of the software that created them. The most common technical use is as a ProShow Wizard Theme, an XML-based file used by the now-defunct Photodex ProShow software to define visual styles for slideshows. These files do not contain the actual photos or video clips; they only store the "recipe" (transitions, motion effects, and timing settings). Users often mistake them for video files, only to find they cannot play them in VLC or Windows Media Player.
Another significant variation is the Microsoft Pocket Word Template, a relic from the Windows CE/Pocket PC era. These documents contain text formatting and boilerplate content intended for mobile devices from the early 2000s. Modern versions of Microsoft Word typically cannot open these directly, leaving user data stranded. Additionally, AutoCAD uses this extension for "Publish to Web" templates, which are essentially HTML wrappers for exporting drawings.
For conversion, your approach depends entirely on the file's origin. Pocket Word files can often be rescued and converted to DOCX using SoftMaker Office (TextMaker), which maintains excellent legacy filter support. ProShow files are text-based XML; they cannot be "converted" to video directly without the original ProShow Producer software and the source assets. AutoCAD templates can be edited with any standard text or HTML editor.
