The .PWT file extension is shared by multiple distinct, primarily proprietary formats. Its most common applications are as a Disney photo album file created by legacy Walt Disney software, or as a ProShow Wizard Theme file utilized by Photodex ProShow for slide transitions. Less frequently, it is used as an AutoCAD Publish To Web Template by Autodesk or a legacy Pocket Word Template by Microsoft for obsolete Windows Mobile devices.
The primary disadvantage of .PWT files is their dependence on discontinued or abandoned software. Photodex permanently closed in 2020, stripping ProShow files of native support. Likewise, Pocket Word and Disney's old photo tools are defunct. These files require obsolete ecosystems, meaning modern desktop operating systems cannot natively interpret them.
Conversion targets vary heavily based on the specific variant of the .PWT file. For ProShow files, which are structured as XML, converting or extracting the data to XML or TXT is the best way to salvage raw theme configurations. Pocket Word files should ideally be exported to RTF or DOCX to preserve text formatting. Disney albums are highly proprietary and generally cannot be directly converted to standard image formats like JPG without losing the layout structure.
