About PV files

The .PV file extension is most commonly associated with Prezi Video presentations and Satellite PVR video recordings. It is also used as a parameters file for Picovoice AI wake word models, cryptographic verification scripts for ProVerif, and specialized medical or vehicle diagnostic reports.

To open these files, users typically need the software that created them. Prezi handles video presentation files, while satellite PVR recordings are generated by DVB set-top boxes and managed by software like ProgDVB.

Users frequently need to convert these files because they are highly restrictive. Prezi Video files are proprietary, often massive in size, and require the specific desktop application to open. PVR recordings from set-top boxes are even more problematic; they often contain raw transport streams wrapped in hardware-specific DRM (Digital Rights Management). This means a recording made on your TV receiver usually will not play on your computer with standard media players like VLC. You are locked into the original hardware ecosystem.

To make these files usable, the best target formats are MP4, MKV, or AVI. Converting to standard MP4 allows universal playback on any browser or device, though you may lose interactive presentation elements or hardware-specific metadata.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because the internal structure is usually closed or hardware-locked. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PY, PEZ, PVL and KTX files.

The PV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PV converter.
