Alternatively, if the file is an image, it is likely a legacy mouse pointer format originally developed for the OS/2 operating system. Unlike modern CUR or ANI files used in Microsoft Windows, .PTR bitmaps are rarely supported by modern image viewers or web browsers. Designers finding these in old archives cannot preview them without specialized tools. The best workflow is converting these legacy pointers to PNG (for web previewing) or standard ICO/CUR files (for use in modern operating systems), ensuring transparency masks are preserved during the transition.
