About PSSG files

A .PSSG file is a proprietary game asset container primarily used by the Sony PhyreEngine and the EGO Engine developed by Codemasters. It typically stores 3D models, textures, animations, and scene graph data for PlayStation and PC games like Need for Speed, DiRT, and the F1 series.

There is no official consumer software to open or edit these files. Game modding communities rely on specialized, community-built tools like the Ryder PSSG Editor to access and modify the internal textures.

The main disadvantage of the .PSSG format is its closed, highly proprietary nature. These files are compiled and customized for specific game releases, meaning you cannot open them in standard 3D applications like Blender or standard image viewers. They are completely unsupported by web browsers. To make modifications, users are forced to extract the raw internal assets.

For conversion, the best approach is targeted extraction. Internal textures should be converted to DDS, PNG, or TGA files. Embedded 3D meshes are typically extracted to OBJ or FBX formats. Be aware that complex game-specific shader data and rigging will often be lost during this extraction process.

Because .PSSG is a compiled, closed-source format, standard online converters will fail to process it. Often, only the original game engine or dedicated modding scripts can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PSSG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RAR, VTP, VTK and GED files.
