Convert VTP to another file type
To convert VTP polygonal data files to another format, you need ParaView or other 3D software.
Convert a file to VTP
To convert other file formats to the "VTK Polygonal Data File" file type, you need software like ParaView or a similar tool.
About VTP files
The .VTP file extension primarily represents a VTK Polygonal Data file. These files are typically created and manipulated using ParaView or scientific applications built on the Visualization Toolkit. The format is designed to store complex 3D geometry such as vertices, lines, and polygons within an XML structure. This format causes significant friction for average users because it requires a heavy, specialized desktop installation to view. Mobile browsers and standard operating systems cannot read .VTP files natively, making them extremely difficult to share with non-engineers or clients. Additionally, the .VTP extension is used by Crestron VisionTools Pro-e as a touch panel project file, which is a proprietary Microsoft Compound format, and by 3DVista as a virtual tour file, which is a disguised ZIP archive. For 3D visualization files, we highly recommend converting .VTP to universally supported formats like OBJ, STL, or PLY. This ensures absolute compatibility with 3D printers and standard CAD software, though advanced scientific datasets attached to the geometry might be lost during the transition. Many .VTP files, especially Crestron and 3DVista projects, are difficult to open or convert because they are closed, proprietary formats. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our tool will securely inspect the file, and if it detects a supported underlying embedded format like XML or a ZIP container, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VTP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert VTP file to STL, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, PLY or WRL, you can use ParaView or similar software from the "3D Polygonal Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to VTP, try ParaView or another comparable tool in the "3D Polygonal Data Storage" category.
The VTP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VTP converter.
