About PKA files
The .PKA file format is an interactive learning file exclusively used by Cisco Packet Tracer. These files are a staple in Cisco Networking Academy courses, containing simulated network topologies, instructional text, and automated grading scripts used to evaluate CCNA students. To open or interact with a .PKA file, you must have Cisco Packet Tracer installed. The format's biggest disadvantage is its strict proprietary lock-in. .PKA files are completely unreadable without Cisco's software, making it impossible to view the assignment or the network diagram on a mobile device or standard document viewer. Furthermore, version incompatibility is a notorious issue; opening a newer .PKA file in an older version of the software often results in broken topologies or failed grading scripts. Most standard online converters fail to process .PKA files because the internal data structure is heavily customized and encrypted by Cisco. Extracting the topology to a standard .PKT or extracting the embedded instructions to PDF or HTML is generally impossible through basic means. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. This is where convert.guru comes in as a practical workaround.
