About PJF files
The .pjf extension primarily refers to a Print Job File or Project Job File used in specialized industrial and engineering workflows, most notably by Trotec Laser machines and Pointwise CFD software.
1. Trotec JobControl File (Primary Use)
For users of laser cutters and engravers, a .pjf file is generated by JobControl software. It acts as a digital "work order" for the laser machine, containing not just the vector paths or raster images to be engraved, but also the critical machine parameters: laser power, speed, PPI (pulses per inch), and material settings.
The Problem: These files are proprietary and often "write-only" in practice - created in design software like CorelDRAW or Adobe Illustrator and sent to JobControl. Users often struggle to "open" a .pjf file on a computer that isn't connected to the laser cutter, as the file relies on specific hardware drivers and material database definitions (XML) to render correctly.
The Solution:
To Edit: You cannot directly convert a .pjf back to DXF or AI easily. You must locate the original source file (e.g., CDR, PDF) used to generate the job.
To View: Try renaming the extension to ZIP and extracting it. Internal components often include XML data or thumbnail previews that can be viewed in a web browser.
2. Pointwise Journal File
In computational fluid dynamics (CFD), .pjf files are Journal Files created by Pointwise (now part of Cadence). These are plain text scripts written in the Glyph scripting language (based on Tcl).
The Solution:
To Open: Since these are text-based, you can open them with any code editor like Notepad++ or VS Code to view or modify the meshing commands.
To Convert: Save as TXT for documentation or TCL to run as a standard script.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PJF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PJF file to PDF, INDD, QXP, PUB, PMD, PM6, PM7, PM8, PM9, PM10, PM11 or OMP, you can use JobControl or similar software from the "Laser Cutter Job File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MDI, PUB, PDP, PM4, P65, COMIC, WEBTEMPLATE, PMD, SPUB, INDD, PM5 or QXP files to PJF, try JobControl or another comparable tool in the "Laser Cutter Job File" category.
The PJF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PJF converter.
