About OZ files
The .OZ extension serves two distinct, technical communities. Most commonly, it represents a source code file written in the Oz programming language, a multi-paradigm language used for constraint and distributed programming within the Mozart Programming System. These files contain plain text logic but require the specific Mozart virtual machine to execute, which can be difficult to install on modern operating systems like Windows 11 or macOS. Users often find themselves unable to run the code and simply need to view the algorithms. In a completely different industrial context, an .OZ file may be a compressed backup generated by Opera Job Management software (used in window/door manufacturing). These are proprietary archives used to store production data. The common downside here is 'vendor lock-in' - users possess the data but cannot access it without the expensive original software. However, these files are often just standard Gzip archives in disguise. For the coding format, the best pragmatic solution is converting to TXT or PDF to preserve syntax for documentation. For the Opera backup, the file can often be 'converted' simply by renaming it to GZ and opening it with a standard archiver.
