About OV files

The .OV file extension represents three distinct, incompatible formats, creating significant confusion for users.

  1. OpenViBE Scenario (Most Common): These are configuration files used by OpenViBE to design Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) experiments. While they control signal processing, the file itself is often just an XML text file describing the pipeline (boxes and links). Users often need to convert these to PDF for documentation or XML/Text to view the logic without installing the specialized OpenViBE Designer software.
  2. HiSilicon Firmware: A binary update package used to flash IP cameras and DVR devices (often found in security systems). These are system files, not media files, and cannot be converted to standard video formats like MP4 or AVI despite often being found alongside video recordings.
  3. O&O DiskImage Overlay: A temporary or differential file created by O&O DiskImage during backup processes. These are proprietary binary segments that require the original .OMG base image to function.

Practical Tips: If your file is from a research lab, it is likely an OpenViBE scenario - try opening it with a text editor. If it is from a security camera, it is likely firmware or a raw stream requiring specific manufacturer tools.
