Convert GFS to another file type
To convert GFS data files to another format, you need GDAL or other Game software.
Convert a file to GFS
To convert other file formats to the "Game Data Archive" file type, you need software like GDAL or a similar tool.
About GFS files
The .GFS file format serves multiple highly specialized purposes, most prominently as a proprietary game data package for the Reverge Labs engine (used in titles like Skullgirls) and the Sony PhyreEngine. Alternatively, it functions as a GML Feature Schema file within the GDAL library and GeoServer for geographic information systems. The major disadvantage of the .GFS format is its closed, undocumented nature. When used in games, it locks 3D models, textures, and audio files into a proprietary container that standard operating systems and web browsers cannot natively open. This prevents users from easily accessing or modifying the internal media. Furthermore, GIS-related .GFS files require heavy, specialized geospatial software to interpret the spatial schemas. Users typically need to convert game archives to standard formats like ZIP, and extract the internal media to PNG, WAV, or OBJ. GIS users generally target XML, CSV, or GeoJSON for wider data compatibility. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because standard online converters fail to parse custom game compression algorithms or complex spatial databases. Often, only the original software or community-developed modding tools can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GFS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GFS file to SYS, DLL, EXE, DRV, VXD, 386, COM, BAT, CMD, SCR, PIF or LNK, you can use GDAL or similar software from the "Game Archive & GIS Schema" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MSI, EXE, REG, MST, LNK, CAB, CAT, DRV, INF, SYS, MSU or DLL files to GFS, try GDAL or another comparable tool in the "Game Archive & GIS Schema" category.
The GFS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GFS converter.
