About OTP files

The .OTP file extension primarily represents an OpenDocument Presentation Template, the standard template format for open-source presentation software like LibreOffice Impress and Apache OpenOffice. These files function similarly to Microsoft's POTX; they contain master slides, layout definitions, fonts, and style settings used to spawn new ODP presentation files with a consistent look and feel.

The key problem for users is that .OTP files are strictly templates, not finished presentations. Opening one often generates a new, unsaved "Untitled" project rather than opening the source file for editing. Furthermore, while Microsoft PowerPoint offers partial support for OpenDocument formats, complex animations, transitions, and specific formatting often break during the import process.
