About SXI files
The .SXI file extension identifies a StarOffice Impress Presentation, a legacy format introduced by Sun Microsystems for its StarOffice suite (the predecessor to Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice). These files are essentially ZIP-compressed archives containing XML data, intended to store slide decks, vector graphics, and multimedia elements.
While .SXI was once a standard open alternative to PowerPoint, it is now largely obsolete. Users often encounter friction when trying to open these files today because modern versions of Microsoft PowerPoint do not natively support .SXI, often resulting in error messages or severely broken formatting. To view the content without installing the massive OpenOffice suite, the most practical solution is converting the file. For universal viewing and archiving, convert to PDF/A. If you need to edit the slides in modern software, converting to PPTX (for Microsoft Office) or ODP (the modern OpenDocument standard) is essential to ensure future compatibility and editability.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your SXI file.

The SXI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SXI converter.
