About OT files

The .OT file format is a highly fragmented extension used by several distinct applications, primarily acting as an Entity Extraction Template file for Microsoft Office Lens, an Octree 3D Map Data file used by the OctoMap library in robotics, or a Network Simulation Output Vector from Riverbed OPNET Modeler.

Because multiple unrelated programs use the .OT extension, standard operating systems usually fail to open them. Users frequently face frustration because a .OT file generated by OPNET contains network traces, while one from OctoMap holds dense 3D spatial data. These proprietary formats lock down data, making it difficult to read without expensive licenses or complex developer environments.

Converting .OT files is inherently difficult because often only the original software can properly read or export the data to standardized formats like CSV, TXT, or OBJ. Standard online converters fail to process them because they cannot differentiate between a 3D map and a network trace.

However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or extracting raw data may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ENT, NICK and CY files.

The OT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OT converter.
