Convert a file to OR5
To convert other file formats to the "PIM Data File" file type, you need software like Lotus Organizer or a similar tool.
About OR5 files
An .OR5 file is the proprietary database format used exclusively by Lotus Organizer 5, a classic Personal Information Manager (PIM) originally developed by Lotus Development Corporation and later acquired by IBM. These files serve as a central repository for a user's digital life from the late 1990s and early 2000s, storing contacts, calendar appointments, to-do lists, notes, and anniversary reminders in a specific binary structure.
The biggest challenge with .OR5 files is severe vendor lock-in and obsolescence. Because Lotus Organizer has been discontinued for many years, modern operating systems like Windows 11 or macOS do not natively support this format. The data is trapped inside a closed, version-specific container; unlike text-based files, you cannot simply open an .OR5 in a text editor to retrieve a phone number or schedule. Users often find themselves unable to migrate their legacy data to modern services like Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook because these platforms do not recognize the outdated Lotus schema.
To salvage this data, conversion is the only viable path. For address books, the best target format is CSV (Comma Separated Values) or vCard (.VCF), which allows for immediate import into modern email clients and smartphones. For calendar data, converting to the standard iCalendar (.ICS) format is recommended. For simple archiving or viewing of notes without needing to import them, converting to PDF ensures the information remains readable independent of any specific software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OR5 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OR5 file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Lotus Organizer or similar software from the "Personal Information Management Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to OR5, try Lotus Organizer or another comparable tool in the "Personal Information Management Data" category.
The OR5 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OR5 converter.
