About OR6 files

The .OR6 file extension represents a proprietary database generated by Lotus Organizer 6, a classic Personal Information Manager (PIM) software originally developed by Lotus Development Corporation and later acquired by IBM. These files serve as digital day planners, storing structured data such as address books, appointment calendars, to-do lists, notes, and anniversary reminders using a distinct skeuomorphic "notebook" interface.

Working with .OR6 files today presents significant friction because the software has been discontinued for years. Users typically encounter these files when recovering data from old backups or legacy systems. The format is a closed binary structure, meaning it cannot be opened with standard text editors like Notepad++ or modern PIM tools like Microsoft Outlook without conversion. Furthermore, installing original copies of Lotus Organizer on modern operating systems like Windows 11 often requires compatibility shims or virtualization, making native access impractical for most users.

To recover or migrate this data, the best approach is conversion to open standards. For address books, converting to CSV (Comma Separated Values) or .vCard allows for easy import into Google Contacts or Outlook. For calendar data, the iCalendar (ICS) format is the standard target. If you simply need to view the historical schedule or notes for archival purposes, converting the planner pages to PDF ensures the visual layout is preserved without requiring specialized software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OR6 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted OR5, OR3 and OR4 files.
