About OPA files
The .OPA file extension is used for several different types of data. Most often, it is an Office Policy Template used by Microsoft Office. These files store software activation rules and system settings in a UTF-16 format. The .OPA extension is also used by Oculus (Meta) to store 3D animation assets for virtual reality apps. Finally, woodworking professionals use .OPA files as project containers in Optimik to save board dimensions and cutting plans using zlib compression. Users often struggle with .OPA files. When you double-click the file, your computer usually does not know how to open it. The biggest disadvantage of the current format is that it is closed and proprietary. Microsoft Office .OPA files are system configuration files. You cannot open them as documents in Word or Excel. If you try to edit them, you risk breaking your software activation. Optimik project files are also restrictive. You cannot view your cutting list unless you install the exact Optimik software. Because of these limits, users need to convert .OPA files to share data. If you have an Optimik project, the best conversion targets are PDF documents or CSV spreadsheets so anyone can read the cut list. If you have Oculus VR assets, you should export them to standard 3D formats like OBJ or FBX. You will lose some application-specific settings during conversion, but the core data becomes accessible. This file format is difficult to open or convert because the same extension is shared by completely unrelated programs. Standard online converters fail because they cannot know if the file contains woodworking data or Microsoft settings. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OPA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The OPA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OPA converter.
