About OP files

The .OP file extension is primarily associated with two very different ecosystems: scientific data and gaming. The most common use (approx. 43%) is for NOAA NCEI Global Surface Summary of the Day (GSOD) weather data. These are plain text files containing daily weather summaries from stations worldwide. While valuable for climate research, the raw format is often fixed-width text that is difficult to analyze without processing. Users frequently face friction trying to open these directly in spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, as the columns may not align automatically. Converting these .OP files to CSV or XLSX is the standard workflow to make the data usable for graphing and analysis.

Alternatively, a .OP file may be a plugin package for Openplanet, a toolkit used with the racing game Trackmania. In this context, the file is essentially a renamed ZIP archive containing scripts and assets. The main constraint here is that operating systems do not natively treat .OP files as folders, making it hard to inspect the code or assets inside without renaming the extension or using an archiver tool. For these files, identifying the format and converting (or renaming) to ZIP allows users to extract contents. Less common uses include proprietary operation sheets for GibbsCAM or legacy documents from Optio Print.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CMI, BAI and FMA files.
