Convert OP to another file type
To convert OP Data or plugins to another format, you need NOAA NCEI or other Data software.
Convert a file to OP
To convert other file formats to the "Scientific Dataset or Plugin" file type, you need software like NOAA NCEI or a similar tool.
About OP files
The .OP file extension serves several entirely different technical purposes depending on its origin. Most commonly, it acts as a Global Daily Weather Summary distributed within the NOAA NCEI GSOD dataset. Researchers and meteorologists use these files to store massive arrays of observational data. Alternatively, an .OP file is a game modification plugin used by Openplanet for the popular racing game Trackmania. In manufacturing environments, it functions as a CAM manufacturing operation sheet utilized by GibbsCAM or Mastercam. Finally, enterprise legacy systems might generate it as an Optio Print document via Bottomline Technologies software.
The main disadvantage of the .OP format is severe fragmentation. A weather data .OP file is useless to a gamer, and an Openplanet plugin cannot be read by CAM software. Weather .OP files are often specialized data arrays that are cumbersome to read without statistical software or data wrangling tools. Openplanet .OP files are actually disguised ZIP archives; however, because they use the obscure .OP extension, standard operating systems and extraction tools often ignore them. This makes it frustrating for users who just want to extract a script, inspect 3D assets, or read weather records.
To solve these issues, you must convert or rename .OP files based on their true internal structure. Weather data files are best converted to CSV or TXT for analysis in Microsoft Excel or Python. Openplanet plugins should be treated as ZIP files, allowing you to extract the internal contents. Optio documents can typically be converted to or opened directly as PDF files.
Because multiple systems use the exact same .OP extension for completely different data types, standard online converters usually fail to process them. They cannot guess whether the file contains wind speed data, CNC machining instructions, or Trackmania 3D models. Our analysis engine checks the actual file signature. If we detect an underlying ZIP, PDF, or plain text structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OP file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use NOAA NCEI or similar software from the "Weather Data or Game Plugin" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to OP, try NOAA NCEI or another comparable tool in the "Weather Data or Game Plugin" category.
The OP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OP converter.
