The .OND file format is the standard definition file for solar inverters within PVsyst, the industry-standard software for photovoltaic system simulation. These files contain critical electromechanical data - such as efficiency curves, MPPT voltage ranges, and power limitations - required to model how an inverter behaves under various conditions.
While essential for engineers, .OND files present significant friction for non-users. They are specialized data files that often require a paid PVsyst license to view or edit properly. Users frequently encounter issues when manufacturers release new .OND files that are incompatible with older versions of the software, or when they simply need to extract technical specs for a report without launching a complex simulation environment. Furthermore, the format is proprietary, making it difficult to import this data directly into other tools like Helioscope or SAM. For documentation and sharing specifications with clients who lack technical software, converting to PDF is the standard workflow. If you need to analyze the efficiency points or edit the parameters outside the PVsyst database, converting the underlying text data to CSV or XLSX (for use in Microsoft Excel) is the most practical solution. Some legacy .OND files are strictly binary, while modern ones use text-based structures (often UTF-8), allowing for easier conversion to plain TXT.
