About OLE files
A .OLE file is a container created using Microsoft's Object Linking and Embedding technology. This format allows applications like Microsoft Word or Excel to embed content created in other programs (e.g., an Excel chart inside a Word doc). While efficient for inter-app communication within the Windows ecosystem, standalone .OLE files are problematic for storage and sharing. They are proprietary binary containers that function as "black boxes" - you typically cannot view them without the original host application and the linked source program installed. Furthermore, because they can encapsulate executable code or scripts, they pose potential security risks and are not supported by web browsers or mobile devices. To access the data trapped inside, users should convert these files to PDF for universal viewing, DOCX for editing text, or image formats like JPG or PNG if the embedded object is a graphic.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OLE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OLE file to JPG, PDF, DWG, TABLE or TEXT, you can use Microsoft Office or similar software from the "Embedded Object Container" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The OLE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OLE converter.
