About OBW files

The .OBW file extension serves as the high-fidelity container for drum samples within Toontrack Superior Drummer. These files are essentially massive audio banks, often formatted using the RIFF structure (similar to WAV), but optimized specifically for the Toontrack playback engine. Users typically encounter friction because these are not standard audio files; you cannot drop an .OBW into VLC Media Player or a standard DAW track to listen to it. The files are proprietary, often encrypted or chunked in a way that only the Superior Drummer VST/Standalone software can decode to trigger specific velocity layers and microphone channels. Consequently, they are useless without the expensive parent software license. For production workflows requiring these sounds in other samplers (like Native Instruments Kontakt), the only reliable conversion method is to load the library within Superior Drummer and use the internal "Bounce" or "Export" feature to render the audio to WAV or AIFF. Direct file conversion is rarely successful due to the complex multi-channel mapping and proprietary headers.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OBW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SOUNDSTATS, DAT, TCI, XSB, RFL and WAV files.
