About NX2 files
The .NX2 extension represents two distinct, high-performance formats: game archives for Supreme Commander 2 and financial market recordings by Nanex.
For gamers and modders, an .NX2 file is simply a ZIP archive masquerading with a different extension. Developed by Gas Powered Games, these files store unit meshes, textures, and scripts for the real-time strategy game. Users often encounter friction when trying to mod the game or inspect assets because standard archivers like 7-Zip do not automatically associate with the extension. The pragmatic solution is trivial: renaming the file from .NX2 to ZIP instantly makes it accessible.
In the financial sector, .NX2 is a legacy version of the NxCore Tape format by Nanex. These are highly compressed, proprietary binary recordings of entire market trading days (quotes, trades, and indices). Unlike the game files, these cannot be renamed or opened with text editors. They are often gigabytes in size and require the NxCoreAPI to parse. Analysts typically need to convert these "tapes" into CSV or Excel formats to perform quantitative analysis, as the raw binary data is unreadable to standard data science tools.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NX2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The NX2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NX2 converter.
