About NVD files
The .NVD file extension represents a convergence of high-tech data storage formats, primarily serving as a project container for NVIDIA Instant-NGP (Instant Neural Graphics Primitives). In this context, the file functions as a snapshot of a Neural Radiance Field (NeRF), often structured as a ZIP archive containing model weights, configuration JSONs, and camera trajectory data. Users typically need to convert these files to standard 3D formats like OBJ or PLY to use the geometry in software like Blender or Unity, but the source file is strictly optimized for NVIDIA's AI rendering pipeline, making direct editing difficult without the original CLI tools.
Alternatively, an .NVD file may be a Norms Vector Data file generated by Apache Lucene. These are binary system files used to store normalization factors for search indexing and are not intended to be opened by humans. Attempting to open a Lucene .NVD in a text editor results in gibberish. Lastly, legacy users may encounter this format as a network map created by J.A.G. NetworkView. For NVIDIA files, the pragmatic workaround for content extraction is often renaming the extension to ZIP to access internal assets, while Lucene files require specialized debugging tools like Luke.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NVD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NVD file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use NVIDIA Instant-NGP or similar software from the "Neural Graphics Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to NVD, try NVIDIA Instant-NGP or another comparable tool in the "Neural Graphics Storage" category.
The NVD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NVD converter.
