About ACV files
A .acv file is primarily a color adjustment setting used by Adobe Photoshop. It stores "Curves" data - precise mathematical mappings that define how input tonal values (shadows, midtones, highlights) transform into output values across RGB channels.
The Problem: Because .acv is a proprietary binary format, it acts as a "black box." It is not an image file; you cannot simply double-click to view a picture. Furthermore, this format is heavily locked into the Photoshop ecosystem. Users who download .acv presets often discover they cannot import them directly into Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro, which rely on different preset architectures like XMP or standard 3D LUTs.
The Solution: To free your color grades for use in video editing or other photo software, the best workflow is to convert .acv files to universal Look-Up Table (LUT) formats like CUBE or 3DL. For archiving or sharing curve points specifically, converting to the text-based AMP (Arbitrary Map) format is recommended. In rare instances (approx. 5%), an .acv file may be a raw H.264 video stream; in this case, converting to MP4 makes it playable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ACV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted XAPK, ATF, ACO, PDP and ARR files.
The ACV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ACV converter.
